Following David Attenborough’s Blue Planet II early last year, the impact of plastic, and us as a society, on our environment was brought into the public spotlight. As a business and an individual I knew I had to do something. Pallet wood briquettes supported by the New Anglia Growth Hub and part funded by the ERDF Small Grant Scheme, was my first idea.
As a company Anglia Pallets heart is re-using wooden pallets. This is not always possible and some recycling has to occur. We decided the best way to do this was to deal with it ourselves by shredding our own waste, removing nails and producing high quality pallet wood briquettes for the wood burner market. This not only reduces our carbon footprint by removing the need for collecting wood waste inefficiently in bins but will provide a new product for the company and employment for the local community.
To enable us to do this we applied to the New Anglia Growth Hub who have provided us with a 20% grant on the cost of the machinery needed. The machine was commissioned last week and we are now in the process of testing the briquettes so that we can get the most efficient product for our customers and environment.
This is only the first of our green initiatives in our journey to carbon neutral. Look out for future updates, both here and on our facebook pages https://facebook.com/angliapallets and https://facebook.com/angliabriquettes
